UNICAF staff in different cities around the world are always ready to support charity events with all their heart. So they would not have missed the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, which is a landmark event in the annual calendar in Kenya. The marathon run is the flagship of the bank’s charity project ‘Seeing is Believing’, a fund raising initiative for visually impaired citizens in need, which aims to help fight blindness in Kenya.
This well – established popular event, attracts a lot of media interest at home and abroad and is broadcast live on Kenyan TV.
In total, 17.000 people registered for this year’s Marathon as individuals, families, corporate or social groups.
The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon gave UNICAF staff the chance to be part of a worthy cause, and to feel proud and grateful for representing an organisation, which actively cares for the communities it serves.
Here is how two UNICAF runners described their experience:
“I feel indebted and happy to be a member of UNICAF staff participating in such a worthy event. My body felt in pretty good shape, (even my niggling left foot/Achilles tendon was not bothering me), but I was a little anxious after not being able to run and train for the race in the past five weeks”.
Sheilah Omondi, Customer Care Administrator -UNICAF Kenya
“I was excited, nervous and didn’t know what to expect. I was a bit worried about weather conditions ,earlier in the morning, but it turned-out to be a sunny day. I thank UNICAF for giving me this opportunity to participate in an event for such a good cause. This proves how UNICAF cares and gives back to society”.
