Saying Goodbye to 2016, It’s Time to Plan 2017!

Saying Goodbye to 2016, It’s Time to Plan 2017!

With this calendar year drawing to a close, it’s time to reflect on the past twelve months and re-evaluate where you want to be in the future. This is a time of reflection on past achievements, disappointments, successes and failures and also a time to plan ahead for the New Year.

It’s also a good time to make an assessment of where you are standing now, as far as your coursework is concerned, and plan ahead for the rest of your studies. Set some time aside to think back on this year, and to create an action plan for 2017. Here’s a guide on how to do this:

  1. Achievements
Think about all the goals you have reached this year that make you proud. Write them down and you will realise that your efforts were not in vain. Aim to build on these achievements in the next year, or if you decide to go in a different direction, make a plan of how to do this.
  2. Failures
Nobody wants to remember their failures. It’s a negative feeling to feel you have failed. But if you recognise the reasons behind each failure, you will be able to avoid making the same mistakes in the coming year. So be brave and think of your failures as opportunities to improve yourself and your work.
  3. Financial Situation
Money is always important and, by realising how much disposable income you have, you will be able to decide whether new projects that require capital are feasible, or if you will have to be extra creative and find a new source of income to bring them to fruition. Also, a review of how you have handled your finances this year can prove helpful in making you realise which expenses could have been avoided.
  4. Goals
Are you on a path that will, eventually, lead you to your goals? It is easy to lose your way from time to time, when personal or other circumstances change rapidly, but you should always remain focused on your end destination. There are always alternative routes to discover, that can lead you to your ultimate goals.
  5. Friends and family
Everybody is different. Some people cannot function without a crowd while others feel overwhelmed. What everybody has in common is the need for human interaction. If you think you have been very busy lately, and have neglected family and friends, now is the time to catch up with your loved ones.
  6. Health
Good health is the most precious gift of all. To achieve your goals and live the life you are dreaming of you must proactively take care of your physical and mental health. Aim to eat healthily and keep to an ideal weight, drink plenty of water, avoid smoking and exercise daily. Even if it’s just a short walk. Exercise releases endorphins, which increase your levels of happiness, help you work harder and achieve more. How well did you care for your health this year? What changes can you make to be healthier and more productive in 2017?
  7. Happiness
Which were your happy moments in 2016? Would you change some of the things you did this year to feel happier? How can you have a happier life?
