‘So, you’ve paid your start up fees and now you’re wondering what next?

The Student Guide can offer you an idea of what to expect when starting your first module and useful tips preparing you to navigate the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) with ease.

Whether you’re a newcomer or a veteran in regards to online learning it is vital that you understand you now have access to a whole new world of education. Everything you need in regards your module is on the VLE and although you may be alone, looking at the screen wondering if you made the right choice studying online please bear in mind in mind you will not be studying alone. The VLE gives you access to fellow students as well as faculty members; In fact it’s highly likely you’ll bump into a work colleague or a friend studying towards the same online degree as you!

You might not be able to physically see them but there’s a huge number of students in there with you, real people with their own questions, their own worries, students that you can communicate with freely via the VLE.

There’s no such thing as a stupid question!

  • ‘What does this mean?’
  • ‘Where’s my reading material?’
  • ‘How do I upload my assignments?’
  • ‘Why’d I get this grade?’
  • ‘I can’t make the deadline, what do I do?’

The most important thing is that you establish solid communication with your lecturer.

Yes, you’ll have study material, research to do and deadlines to meet but a good working relationship with your lecturer is essential because only they can offer the necessary feedback you are looking for. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with them’ it’s simple and easy, all you have to do is drop them a message via the VLE messaging system and they’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

On a closing note; it is only when a problem arises that you realise how many questions you should have asked so take advantage of the benefits you’ve got and don’t delay in sending that email; besides that’s what your lecturers are paid to do…help you!
