Press Release
Wonderful Reception at Unicaf University Essay Competition 2022 Award Ceremony

Unicaf University in Uganda recently held an essay competition with the theme of “Changing the way we learn in contemporary times.” Participants had a chance to win cash prizes up to $200 in cash, and the top 5 winners were guaranteed a 90% scholarship to study at one of Unicaf’s partner universities.

With over 20 finalists to choose from, our judges had quite a challenge deciding on the top 5 essays, as all of them were incredibly well-written. The students had undertaken a lot of research to create pieces of writing that were relevant to the topic of the competition but that also covered a vast range of perspectives and viewpoints about it too, which made reading and evaluating the essays challenging and incredibly exciting.

That being said, the winners of the 2022 Unicaf University Essay Competition are:

  • Samantha Pricey Mirembe – Gayaza High School: 90% Scholarship and $200 cash
  • Victor Muhinda – King’s College Budo: 90% Scholarship and $150 cash
  • Pearl Neema Tendo – Seeta High School: 90% Scholarship and $100 cash
  • Samantha Akwine – Greenhill Academy, Secondary: 90% Scholarship and $50 cash
  • Hakim Laxmi Sundisi – Seroma Christian High School: 90% Scholarship and a Free Professional Development Course

The Award Ceremony was held on the 29th of September at the Unicaf University campus in Uganda, and started at 10:20 a.m., with welcome remarks by the MC, Mr Moses Turyagumanawe, the Marketing Manager of Unicaf University in Uganda.

The remarks were then followed by several pre-award activities, including a prayer led by Ms Connie Kunihira, the Senior Marketing Manager of Unicaf University, the Ugandan national anthem, a review of the programme of the ceremony and finally an introduction of all those present of the event.

Prior to the awards being given out to the winners, the MC invited Ms Dorothy Mukimba to share some information about Unicaf and its partner universities. She praised the incredible Virtual Learning Environment, the generous scholarship opportunities that Unicaf offers, the large number of programmes that Unicaf’s partner universities make available to their students, and also listed all the benefits to enrolling with Unicaf. She then congratulated the winners of the competition, and the ceremony began.

The award ceremony was facilitated by the MC, Mr Turyagumanawe, and the Vice Chancellor of Unicaf University, Professor George William Nasinyama was invited to award the winners and pose for photographs. The winners of the competition were given the chance to make their own short speeches, and all of them extended their gratitude to Unicaf University for giving them the platform to share their views about the essay topic, as well as thanking Unicaf for the prizes themselves.

The event concluded with a brief Q&A session, after which Ms Mukimba shared closing remarks by motivating teachers to encourage their students to attend more events that Unicaf holds per year, which could provide them with a life-changing opportunity at any given time.
