Nairobi, Kenya – 7th March 2025 – Unicaf Kenya’s Country Manager, Ms Winnie Rachael, received a prestigious award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to education and leadership during the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
The event brought together esteemed dignitaries, including Dr Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), and Hon. Harriette Chiggai, Gender Adviser in the Executive Office of The President. Both leaders highlighted the critical role of women’s empowerment in fostering sustainable growth and societal progress.
Dr Ezekiel Mutua remarked, “Empowering women is not just about equity; it is about unlocking the full potential of our society. When women thrive, communities and economies prosper.”
Hon. Harriette Chiggai added, “Women’s empowerment is a continuous journey of breaking barriers, creating opportunities, and ensuring every woman has a seat at the table. Together, we build a more inclusive and just society.”
During her address, Winnie Rachael highlighted her commitment to making higher education accessible through Unicaf’s scholarship programmes. She also shed light on Unicaf’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which have significantly impacted communities in need. These initiatives include the distribution of dignity kits to girls affected by gender-based violence in refugee camps and participation in educational forums advocating for equal learning opportunities.
Unicaf has been instrumental in providing scholarships that enable students to access internationally recognised degree programmes. Many students have been able to further their careers and make meaningful contributions to their communities, thanks to these life-changing opportunities.
