Unicaf recently participated in the Falas Conference, held from 14th to 18th October at the Seascape Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This significant event served as a vital platform for discussing educational opportunities, leadership development and the future of youth in Africa, bringing together policymakers and youth leaders to explore collaborative efforts aimed at empowering the next generation.
A highlight of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unicaf and Falas. This partnership aims to enhance educational access and resources for students across Africa. The MoU outlines collaborative initiatives that will focus on providing quality education and support services to empower youth in their academic and professional pursuits.
Winnie Rachael, Country Manager of Kenya, addressed the conference attendees, emphasising the critical role of leadership in shaping the future of African youth. In her speech, she discussed the importance of education as a tool for empowerment, urging young people to take initiative and become proactive leaders in their communities. Her address highlighted the need for innovative thinking and adaptability in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
Throughout the conference, discussions centred on the importance of education in fostering leadership skills among the youth. Various speakers, including Judge Tujilane Rose Chizumila of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, shared insights on how educational institutions can better prepare students for the challenges they will face in the workforce and society. The emphasis was placed on creating programmes that not only provide academic knowledge but also instil essential life skills and values.
Unicaf remains dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for youth across Africa, and the partnerships established at the Falas Conference will serve as a cornerstone for future initiatives aimed at fostering leadership and empowerment.
