Meet Your Student Advisers: Raphael Papageorgiou, Larnaca Call Centre

“I believe that the greatest reward for student advisers is to see our students graduate successfully and advance in their career and life.”

Raphael Papageorgiou, UNICAF Student Adviser, Larnaca Call Centre

“The UNICAF Organisation aims to assist and support applicants worldwide, to study online for Bachelor, Master’s or PhD degrees with partner universities like the University of South Wales in the UK, the University of Nicosia in Europe, or Unicaf University in Africa.

Once the applicant decides to proceed with one of the online courses, or with blended learning for Unicaf University ‘s campus in Malawi, the Student Adviser, has to collect all necessary documents, arrange an affordable payment plan, suitable to the applicant’s financial situation, and then forward all collected documents to the Admissions office for evaluation.

The most awkward moment I have faced as a Student Adviser was when a prospective applicant called me claiming that he was lost in the desert with his wife, and he wanted me to call a friend of his, to send out a rescue team! I knew he was making fun of me because a) it is not possible to have telephone signal in the desert and b) I would not have been the first person he would turn for help. After two weeks passed I tried calling him again. He answered and said to me, sounding quite upset, that this time he was lost in the jungle and he couldn’t find his wife!!!

Every day in this job is a challenge. We face many difficulties, especially when trying to help people in areas which do not provide continuous access to the internet, as well as when dealing with different mentalities and attitudes.

I receive a lot of emails expressing my applicants’ and students’ appreciation and thankfulness. I believe that, the greatest reward for student advisers is to see our students graduate successfully and advance in their career and life.
