Meet Your Student Advisers: Kya Pavlou, Larnaca Call Centre

“Out of respect for the applicants I shall refrain from giving specific details but let’s just say it is never a dull day at work and I have plenty of marriage proposals pending!”

Kya Pavlou, Student Adviser at the UNICAF Call Centre in Larnaca, Cyprus

Our main mission is to help applicants understand the process they are about to undertake and ensure correct allocation of scholarship funding.

A student adviser needs to have good organisational skills, a thorough understanding of what we offer to students and the ability to absorb additional information that comes through to us regularly. Firmness and patience are also needed, plus an understanding for the different cultures of applicants we come across daily.

Out of respect for the applicants I shall refrain from giving specific details but let’s just say it is never a dull day at work and I have plenty of marriage proposals pending!

The greatest difficulty is not being able to help all students that apply. A lot of the time applicants may have the willingness to learn, but unfortunately their finances do not stretch even to the minimum fees required after a generous UNICAF scholarship is awarded, covering up to 80% of regular tuition fees.

The greatest rewards I receive on this job is the relationships you form with strangers from all over the world, who appreciate my assistance and guidance. It is a nice feeling to know that you are helping change someone’s life for the better.
