Unicaf University Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Lunch for Local Female Students

On March 30th, Unicaf University in Zambia hosted a lunch at the Prime Joint Restaurant in celebration of International Women’s Day. The aim of the lunch was to celebrate, honour and show appreciation to the local female students during women’s month.

The Guest of Honour was Vice-Chancellor Dr Christine Mushibwe who was accompanied by staff members including the Dean of Students, Abigail Chalwe and Unicaf University in Zambia Registrar, Nyamutuma Mwandila. The luncheon kicked off with welcoming remarks from lecturer Nachizya Namukanga.

After the introductions, Nyamutuma Mwandila spoke about how female empowerment is crucial for the development and progress of any society. Empowering women means giving women equal opportunities, access to education and healthcare, and the ability to make decisions that affect their lives. “When women are empowered,” she said, “they are able to contribute to the economy, participate in politics, and advocate for their rights.”

She further spoke about how Unicaf University ensures that women are empowered by creating a conducive learning environment for their study. The flexible system of delivery that makes it possible for every woman to study despite having other commitments was emphasised.

The Marketing Manager, Rachel Sinyangwe, presented an overview of the university, sharing its Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes on offer as well as the generous scholarships available.

The lunch was a great success, providing an opportunity for the female students to network with each other and with the university’s staff. Unicaf University is committed to empowering women through education and creating a supportive environment for them to achieve their academic and career goals.
