Unicaf University and  ICAM Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Unicaf University, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) signed an MOU, with the aim of offering degree programmes to ICAM employees, its students and members, utilising a guaranteed Unicaf Scholarship. 

Dr Robert Ridley, Vice Chancellor of Unicaf University and Dr Chinjoka Gondwe, the CEO of ICAM, represented their respective institutions and carried out the formalities at ICAM’s boardroom in Blantyre. 

Established in 2013, ICAM is the only professional accountancy organisation in Malawi. As the only regulatory body for all accountants it currently claims well over 6,000 members and 5,000 students. 

Following the signing of the MOU, Dr Ridley, in the presence of local media and TV stations, expressed the following sentiments: “This signing will enable ICAM students and members to access degree programmes that will complement their professional qualifications.” 

The Vice Chancellor also stressed: “ICAM’s skills and knowledge can assist Unicaf University to develop better programmes for the future, specifically in developing top-up programmes to facilitate accountancy professionals to earn degree status.” 

ICAM CEO, Dr Gondwe expressed that the signing was in fact a “joyous moment. The benefits are many,” he said. “Discounted rates means that many students would now be able to access higher education at affordable rates.” 

Also present at the ceremony was Mr Golden Banda and Khumbo Mhone from Unicaf University. Representing ICAM, was Director of Training, Chrissie Jere, Director of Corporate Services, Zaithwa Phambaba, and Senior Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, Patrick Achitabwino.
