Unicaf University in Uganda and Duke of Edinburgh Awards Partnership

Unicaf University in Uganda is incredibly proud to announce its partnership with the world’s leading youth achievement award for young people, The Duke of Edinburgh International Awards (DofE).

To mark the partnership between Unicaf University in Uganda and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the Vice Chancellor George Nasinyama and Mr Katende Mukiibi, National Director, of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award had a discussion about the importance of the partnership which took place at Unicaf University campus located at Plot 53B, Ntinda II Road, Kampala on 29th April, 2022.

During this session, Mr Katende Mukiibi, expressed: “We are honoured to work in partnership with Unicaf University to bring quality all-round education to not only the young people in Uganda but also Adults involved in their development. We believe the partnership will impact many lives and will be a step towards preparing more young people for life and work.”  – Katende Mukiibi, National Director, Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Uganda

Vice Chancellor of Unicaf University in Uganda, Professor George Nasinyama said ‘The Duke of Edinburgh Award complements the formal education effort of Unicaf University by enabling the youth to enjoy learning outside the formal education system i.e. within the ‘classroom’. The benefits of the non-formal education gained through the award enables awardees to acquire and/or enhance soft skills in leadership, self-confidence, effective communication, and generally enjoy learning outside the formal learning environment – a journey towards lifelong learning espoused by Unicaf University.’

About the Partnership

The main purpose of this partnership is to recognise the Ugandan Youth’s efforts to carry out community activities as well as sponsor CSR activities in collaboration with DofE.  In addition, DofE’s members have the opportunity to access generous Unicaf scholarships to earn internationally recognised degrees.

About the Duke of Edinburgh International Award

Founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by His Royal Highness the Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh, DofE programme is world’s leading youth achievement award for young people.

The DofE Programme brings together practical experience and life skills to create committed citizens of the world. In Uganda, since 1995, the Award has transformed the lives of over 60,000 young people and has a current annual reach of over 10,000 participants.

His Royal Highness Prince Edward – The Earl of Wessex and Forfar is the current Chairman of Trustees of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and is also a Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award – United Kingdom.
