Unicaf University in Zambia proudly announces its strategic partnership with the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) through the Tuberculosis Local Organisation Network (TBLON) project. This collaboration is part of Unicaf University’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public health and education within the Zambian community.
The TBLON project, funded by USAID, commemorated World TB Day with a national singing competition aimed at raising awareness and funds for tuberculosis (TB) initiatives. The event featured school competitions across Zambia, culminating in a grand finale on April 12, 2024, at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) conference hall in Lusaka. Unicaf University was a proud participant at this significant event.
Unicaf University made significant contributions at the event. Dr Lameck Mwewa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Unicaf University in Zambia, delivered a five-minute presentation highlighting Unicaf University’s programmes, scholarships and the new state-of-the-art campus. The university donated a total of K22,540 to support the TBLON project. Generous scholarships were offered to all winners and finalists of the singing competition. Additionally, Unicaf University awarded five tablets to pupils who excelled in the accompanying quiz competition. The recipients of the tablets were Vanessa Nakanyika from Kamwala Secondary School, Mwanida Phiri from St. Patricks Girls Secondary School, Precious Shebele from Samfya Boarding Secondary School, Beatrice Chaweni from Samfya Boarding Secondary School and Milton Kabo from Samfya Boarding Secondary School.
The TBLON project is dedicated to mobilising local resources for unfunded tuberculosis (TB) initiatives. Its key objectives include providing nutrition supplements for children undergoing TB treatment, supporting income-generating activities for community-based TB volunteers, funding operational research, and aiding the commemoration of World TB Day.
Unicaf University’s involvement underscores its dedication to educational outreach and community health, aligning with the university’s objective to foster growth and development within Zambia. By supporting the TBLON project, Unicaf University contributes not only to raising TB awareness but also to empowering future leaders through education.
