Unicaf University in Uganda organised a careers day for Senior Five and Senior Six Students of the Busoga College Mwiri, an all-boys boarding school. Since the students are currently preparing for university attendance, the day’s theme, “Discovering one’s true purpose,” seemed rather apt. These types of events are a part of Unicaf University’s ongoing high school engagement campaign.
Unicaf University’s Senior Marketing Manager, Ms Dorothy Mukimba opened the session with a brief overview and history of Unicaf University. She also highlighted the importance of career guidance and how it will impact the students’ future. At this stage of the proceedings, Ms Mukimba introduced the day’s special guest speaker, Ms Shamim Walusimbi Nabaggala, Vice President of Human Resource Managers’ Association of Uganda (HRMAU).
The honourable speaker drew insights from her personal and professional journey that have contributed to her current achievements. She emphasised the power and potency of higher education in terms of career development and underlined the significance of reputable universities such as Unicaf University.
Ms Walusimbi encouraged the students to choose their preferred degree programmes with great care as these will contribute greatly to the path they choose in the future. ‘Unicaf University’s degree programmes and professional development courses’, she stated, ‘are a starting point to frame one’s career path.’
The Careers Day session concluded with a Q&A session. The key focus centred around programmes of study, availability of bachelor programmes from Unicaf’s UK partners, and the possibility of expanding the portfolio to include more sciences and engineering programmes. The student engagement proved to be an extremely positive experience.
