Unicaf University reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement by organising a street cleanup activity in Lilongwe under the Plastic-Free Initiative. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and to inspire collective responsibility in keeping the city clean and sustainable.
Held in collaboration with the Lilongwe City Council, the cleanup brought together Unicaf University staff, students, council representatives, and local community members. Participants gathered early at designated points in the city’s central areas, collecting plastic waste and other litter. The effort not only improved the cleanliness of Lilongwe’s streets but also encouraged residents to adopt more sustainable waste management habits.
During the event, representatives from the Lilongwe City Council engaged students in informative sessions on reducing single-use plastics and promoting sustainable practices. The activity also provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and teamwork while contributing to a meaningful community initiative.
The collaboration between Unicaf University and the Lilongwe City Council underscored the value of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges. Through visible community action, the university continues to position itself as a leading advocate for environmental stewardship and social responsibility in Malawi. The initiative left a lasting impact on both participants and the community, reinforcing Unicaf University’s ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, greener future for all.
