Unicaf University, in collaboration with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA), successfully concluded its 2025 Essay Writing Competition with a distinguished award presentation ceremony held at its campus in Zambia on 18 September 2025. The competition aimed to empower young Zambian scholars to critically engage with pressing national issues and showcase their academic excellence.
Launched on 21 July 2025, the essay competition invited final-year secondary school students and graduates aged 25 years or below, residing in Zambia, to explore the theme “Impact of Climate Change on the Zambian Economy.” The initiative received an overwhelming response, with 166 essays submitted demonstrating the creativity, insight, and analytical abilities of Zambia’s emerging scholars.
The award ceremony celebrated the Top Three outstanding essay writers, recognising their exceptional contributions and commitment to academic excellence. The winners are:
- 1st Place: Salima Lydia
- 2nd Place: Francis Mwansa
- 3rd Place: Nyambe Thomas
All three winners received scholarships to study at Unicaf University, along with tablets to support their studies. The awards recognise the students’ efforts, creativity, and academic excellence in addressing the pressing issue of climate change and its economic implications for Zambia.
The ceremony highlighted Unicaf University’s commitment to providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills, engage with important topics, and prepare for further academic and professional pursuits. By collaborating with ZEMA, the competition also emphasised the importance of youth awareness and involvement in environmental and economic matters.
The award ceremony served as a platform to acknowledge the dedication of young writers and to encourage continued engagement with national and global challenges.
