As a precursor to the National Symposium on the outcome of the Focussed Intervention and Training Support (FITS) Training/Research Programme in Dementia Care, a distinguished delegation comprising Prof Thiruppathi Marirajan, Dr Lameck Mwewa from Unicaf University in Zambia and Dr Clementinah Rooke, of the University of Huddersfield, UK, visited Kabiko’s Home-Based Care Centre for the elderly in Kabulonga on January 12th, 2024.
Led by Dr Clementinah Rooke, FITS trainer & Senior Lecturer, the delegation engaged with the elderly residents, focusing on their health and wellbeing. The visit was part of the preparatory events leading up to the National Symposium, where the outcomes of the FITS Training/Research Programme in Dementia Care on 19th Jan 2024 at Lusaka will be discussed.
During the interaction, Dr Rooke and the team explored various aspects of the elders’ health and wellbeing, gaining valuable insights into their unique needs and challenges. The visit was marked by an atmosphere of warmth and compassion as the delegation expressed genuine interest in the wellbeing of the elderly residents.
As a gesture of goodwill and support, Unicaf University donated five bags of mini meals and additional cooking supplements to the elderly population at Kabiko’s Home-Based Care Centre. This contribution is aimed at enhancing the nutritional support provided to the elderly, fostering a healthier and more vibrant community.
The visit to Kabiko’s Home-Based Care Centre exemplifies Unicaf University’s commitment to community engagement and the improvement of elderly care standards. The insights gained from this visit will contribute to significant discussions and findings. These will be shared at the upcoming National Symposium on the Outcome of the FITS Training/Research Programme in Dementia Care.
