Unicaf Strengthens Commitment to Women’s Professional Development

Press Release
Unicaf Strengthens Commitment to Women’s Professional Development October 2026

Unicaf strengthened its engagement with key industry stakeholders and explored new opportunities for collaboration during its participation in the WIREC event, held on 21–22 October 2026 at the Mövenpick Hotel.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unicaf and the Association of Women in Extractives in Kenya (AWEIK), establishing a foundation for collaboration to expand educational opportunities for AWEIK members.

The agreement was signed by Winnie Rachel, Unicaf Country Manager, and Michelle Mwambela, CEO of AWEIK. Through the partnership, AWEIK will help raise awareness of Unicaf’s academic programmes and scholarship opportunities among its members, encouraging them to pursue further education through flexible online learning.

The collaboration reflects a shared interest in supporting professional growth by helping women in the extractives sector access higher education opportunities that can complement their existing careers and professional responsibilities.

Unicaf’s participation also included a speaking slot for Winnie Rachel, who introduced the organisation and highlighted its commitment to making quality higher education more accessible through flexible online learning programmes and scholarship opportunities. Her address helped raise awareness of Unicaf’s educational offering and its potential role in supporting continuing education and career development.

In addition to formalising its relationship with AWEIK, Unicaf engaged with representatives of the Association of Energy Professionals Eastern Africa (AEPEA). Discussions focused on introducing Unicaf’s academic programmes and scholarship opportunities and exploring potential areas of collaboration to promote higher education and professional development among AEPEA members.

The WIREC event brought together stakeholders and organisations from different sectors, offering opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing and the development of strategic relationships. For Unicaf, these engagements represented an important step towards expanding its network of industry and professional associations and identifying new avenues through which learners can access further education.

Through partnerships such as the agreement with AWEIK, Unicaf continues to strengthen its engagement with professional organisations, helping connect their members with opportunities to advance their knowledge, qualifications and careers through accessible, flexible higher education.
