Unicaf recently participated in the Rotary 5-a-side Football Tournament, an annual fundraising event, successfully bringing together thousands of participants from across Uganda for a day of sportsmanship and community service. Held at the Philip Omondi Stadium, the event featured spirited competition among 93 teams, comprising 21 corporate companies, 48 Rotary Clubs and 24 Rotaract Clubs.
The tournament, organised by Rotary, a global organisation of business, professional and community leaders, aims to raise funds for projects that support the less advantaged in the community. This year’s event saw an impressive turnout of around 2,000 attendees who engaged in friendly matches and enjoyed a day filled with fun and philanthropy.
In the Corporate category, Centenary Bank emerged victorious, with Letshego Microfinance as the runners-up. The Rotary Club category saw RC Nakasero Central taking the top spot, followed by RC Kampala Ssese Islands, RC Nansana and RC Bukoto as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners-up, respectively. In the Rotaract Club category, RAC Kololo claimed the championship, while RAC Bweyogerere Namboole was the runners-up.
Unicaf participated with a football team that played valiantly against PKF, Centenary Bank and Finca Microfinance, showcasing great effort and resilience, however they did not advance to the semi-finals.
Throughout the event, there was continuous interaction and sportsmanship between the teams, fostering strong community ties and highlighting the collaborative spirit that underpins Rotary’s initiatives.
As a token of gratitude for the great work achieved, Unicaf offered a generous scholarship to members of Rotary, providing them with the opportunity to study online for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree with one of Unicaf’s leading and prestigious partner universities.
