Liverpool John Moores University in the UK and Unicaf Honour Nigerian Graduates in Lagos

Graduates from the collaborative degree programmes awarded by Liverpool John Moores University in collaboration with Unicaf were invited to a special ceremony to honour their academic achievement at the Oriental hotel in Lagos on January 31st 2026.

Professor Timothy Nichol, Professor of Strategic Leadership and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Society and Culture at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK thanked all graduates and their families for attending. Professor Nichol referred to the history of Liverpool John Moores University, which traces its origins back to 1823 and stressed that 200 years later, Robotics and AI are driving change in all areas, including education.

“Working in partnership with Unicaf”, Professor Nichol stated, “we seek to work with our students, to enable them to realise their full potential in this changing environment, and to create the conditions to develop personally and to make a real contribution to the economic and social well-being of society. I congratulate our graduates for their dedication and perseverance. Going forward, we encourage you to see learning as a lifelong necessity, to develop resilience, to view challenges as opportunities, to accept that the world is always evolving and to embrace the new with a bold determination to make it work for you, to lead and ensure you bring out the full potential of those around you, always acting with integrity, because your reputation is your most important asset and the cornerstone of your happiness and success”.

Dr Kevin Andrews, Chief Academic Officer of Unicaf, welcomed guests and emphasised that many of the graduates had completed their studies while working fulltime, raising families, managing life’s pressures and responsibilities. That combination of ambition and real-world perseverance is exactly what higher education should celebrate, said Dr Andrews and added:

“As Unicaf, we are proud to host this celebration in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University – a university with deep roots, strong values, and a clear sense of purpose. Our LJMU graduates have not merely completed a programme, they are joining something larger – an academic community, an alumni community, a professional network, and a tradition that extends well beyond any single cohort of graduates.”

Linda Ejaeta Akorhe delivered a Vote of Thanks expressing the pride and gratitude of all Liverpool John Moores University graduates in Nigeria who have earned their degrees studying online with a Unicaf scholarship. Linda stated: “First and foremost, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to Liverpool John Moores University for the rigour and quality of their degree programmes, and for affording us the opportunity to earn the qualifications that we celebrate today.
