At an awards ceremony organised by the Unicaf University Project in Uganda, on Tuesday, July 14th 2020 at its facilities in Kampala the winners of the first essay competition received their prizes. The event was attended by representatives of the media, who interviewed the winners about the ideas presented in their essays and the importance of online learning.
The essay competition ‘Is online learning the future of education?’ proved popular among Bachelor degree-holders under the age of 35. Hundreds of participants sent in their personal views and creative ideas on the topic to win scholarships and cash rewards.
The first prize winner is 25-year-old Nyakake Lynn Gloria, who was awarded a full scholarship for a Master’s degree of her choice with Unicaf University through online delivery, plus $300 in cash. Gloria holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and has served as Community Nutrition Officer with an NGO.
Kansiime Mukama Taremwa, 26, is the second winner and he received an 80% scholarship for a Master’s degree of his choice with Unicaf University through online delivery, plus $200 in cash. He has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honours).
The third winner, 30-year-old Lokoro Marino, received a 75% scholarship for a Master’s degree of his choice with Unicaf University through online delivery, plus a free tablet. Lokoro has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.
The Unicaf University Project in Uganda intends to organise more similar competitions to spread further its message of quality online education, which is accessible 24/7, is flexible enough to allow working and studying at the same time, and is made affordable through the award of generous scholarships.
