Unicaf Participates in UNESCO’s 16 Days of Activism Youth Capacity Building Event

Unicaf proudly took part in the 16 Days of Activism Youth Capacity Building event organised by UNESCO, an initiative aimed at strengthening youth participation in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The forum brought together youth leaders, lawyers, influencers, and key stakeholders dedicated to advancing human rights, supporting survivors, and promoting meaningful community transformation.

The event was officially opened by Ms Winnie Racheal, Unicaf Country Manager (Kenya), alongside Mr David Ochieng, UNESCO Representative. Their joint remarks set the tone for an inspiring and solution-driven session, emphasising the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and tools needed to champion GBV prevention and advocate for social justice.

Throughout the event, facilitators from UNESCO and FIDA Kenya led interactive sessions covering human rights education, youth advocacy strategies, GBV prevention frameworks, and practical opportunities for young people to contribute to safer, more inclusive communities. Their expert guidance encouraged participants to reflect, share, and collaboratively create pathways for long-term societal impact.

During her opening address, Ms Winnie Racheal reaffirmed Unicaf’s commitment to youth empowerment through accessible education and capacity building. She highlighted the vital role that young people play in ending GBV and stressed the importance of partnerships – such as the collaboration between Unicaf and UNESCO – in driving sustainable change.

Unicaf remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that empower communities, promote equality, and strengthen youth engagement across Africa. By participating in events like the 16 Days of Activism campaign, Unicaf continues to advance its goal of expanding access to transformative education and fostering a generation of informed, confident, and socially responsive leaders.
