Motivation plays an essential role in the fields of management and organizational psychology when it comes to implementations, debates and researches. Intrinsic motivation becomes vital in this context of addressing how to make employees satisfied and perform effectively. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of desire to direct personal affairs and desire to continually improve on employees’ performance. Simple random technique was used to collect data from one hundred and eighty seven employees and managers from five commercial banks with international authorization in Kebbi state Nigeria. Data was collected from the participants quantitatively through the use of online questionnaire. Descriptive survey design was adopted while the correlations of variables were tested for the two objectives through the use of simple regression model at 0.246 and 0.226 values respectively. All hypotheses were tested with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at the significant level of 0.05 with the use of SPSS. The findings showed that desire to direct personal affairs influences employees performance with the p-value of 0.001<0.05. Also, the findings showed that desire to continually improve has impact on employees’ performance with the p-value of 0.03<0.05. The study recommended to commercial banks, managers, shareholders and other stakeholders to consider intrinsic motivation, create enabling environment and prioritize on employees’ continual improvement and desire todirect personal affairs if their performances are expected in the banks.
