As part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community development, Unicaf University undertook a meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, by visiting the Cheshire Divine Providence Home, also known as Chawama Old People’s Home and Orphanage.
The facility, identified by the Lusaka Catholic Archdiocese as being in need of support to sustain its operational and upkeep costs, received donations from Unicaf University of food items, toiletries and cleaning materials valued at K15,000. The initiative brought together Unicaf University staff and students, offering them an opportunity to engage with the wider community beyond the academic environment.
Speaking during the visit, the Sister in charge of the Home expressed profound gratitude for the donation and commended Unicaf University for its generosity. She also highlighted the Home’s accountability and transparency policies, emphasising that no contribution is ever too small when it comes to supporting the vulnerable in society.
Unicaf University staff and students reflected on the vital role played by the Chawama facility in caring for the elderly and orphaned, while also recognising the spiritual significance of the Christmas season as a time for compassion, generosity and service. The residents of the Home warmly welcomed the gesture and expressed their appreciation for the support received.
As part of the visit, the Vice-Chancellor and Marketing Manager of Unicaf University in Zambia formally signed the visitors’ and donations book, reinforcing the University’s institutional commitment to community engagement.
Through initiatives such as this, Unicaf University continues to demonstrate its dedication to social development, meaningful partnerships and the holistic involvement of its academic community in making a positive difference in society.
