UNICAF students in Uganda were invited to an interesting get-together on the grounds of Uganda’s National Art Gallery, which is part of the Uganda National Cultural Centre. The Nommo Gallery features permanent collections and periodic exhibitions of works of art by both Ugandan and foreign artists. Situated in the heart of Kampala City the gallery offers an impressive selection of art masterpieces from paintings, batiks (tie-and-dye), ceramics, art prints, photographs and sculptures.

University education, once the privilege, becomes increasingly popular and a standard in many companies. This initially created a disadvantage for students located in rural or in lesser developed areas. Luckily, technology filled the gap and created a solution. Most Egyptians are great food lovers and social outings in Egypt tend to concentrate around food. The Egyptian cuisine is very different to Asian cuisines, and even though most Egyptians in urban areas have heard of sushi, the majority never dare to try it. So, when UNICAF staff in Egypt decided to arrange a social event for UNICAF students, to get to know each other and mingle, their first choice of food was sushi, which is a new experience for the majority of Egyptians, just like studying online.

UNICAF is proud to announce its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps, Lagos State Secretariat in Nigeria. The partnership was reached by the NYSC State Co-ordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh, and Dr Nicos Nicolaou, Chief Executive Officer of UNICAF, in the presence of Olufemi Apena and Emmanuel Ebanehita, Country Manager and Marketing Manager of UNICAF Nigeria and distinguished members of the NYSC management.

“My most awkward moment was when I was on the phone with an applicant, explaining all about UNICAF and the moment I had finished he burst out laughing and hang up the phone. He then sent me a text message which wrote ''Change, Jesus loves you''! I guess he must have thought thought I was part of a scam operation.”

25 UNICAF students met on the 14th of October at the Napsa Sports Complex in Lusaka, Zambia to play football and netball. There was a lot of enthusiasm on both student teams, which turned out to be equally strong, so there was no clear winner. Everybody had fun playing and then relaxed over drinks and snacks. UNICAF students used this opportunity to get to know fellow students and network, exchanging experiences about studying through the UNICAF Virtual Learning Environment.

UNICAF students got together on October 7th, at a Café in Lagos, Nigeria, to get to know one another, enjoy dinner and play a game of MONOPOLY. The event began with students introducing themselves and sharing their experiences of studying through UNICAF. They all expressed their gratitude for the positive influence UNICAF has had on their careers and lives. During the event they had the chance to interact with UNICAF employees and to feel part of the international UNICAF Community.

“We do have some funny moments on the job, like when I was trying to fend off the romantic interest of an applicant, who insisted that she would not upload her documents to enable her application to be processed, unless I agreed to go out on a date with her! Don’t ask me how I handled this embarrassing situation please.”
